A Touch of Class (1973)

Word came several days back that the highly-decorated British actor and politician Glenda Jackson passed away at age 87. Upon that news I thought about the two films she won Academy Awards for and realized that I never got around to seeing them, so that made the decision easy as to my next film to write a quick blog about. I went with A Touch of Class simply out of convenience as her other Oscar-winning work (1970’s Women in Love) wasn’t a film I could find streaming anywhere. This won Jackson her second Best Actress Oscar, and it’s a romantic comedy co-starring George Segal and Paul Sorvino, directed by Melvin Frank. Let’s dive in.

Mustang (2015)

Films often catch my interest but sometimes it takes me a while to actually watch them. Such is the case with Mustang, a 2015 film co-produced by several European countries. It was co-written and directed by Deniz Gamze Erguven and–being set in a remote village within the country of Turkey–is a Turkish-language film. Mustang was a winner at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival and France’s Cesar Awards, plus a nominee for Best Foreign Language Film at the 88th Academy Awards. I really don’t know where the title fits into anything but whatever, let’s dive in!
